‘Darth Maul:Saboteur’ – Overview

Well, it was back to school today.  I was under the “crunch” with a new quarter starting today.  I was really annoyed to have to give final exams at lunch today.  I normally am not annoyed by having to give these tests out but I was amazed at the number of students who had to take make-up exams.  I have to say this quarter must have set up some kind of record for the number of make-up exams I had to give.  All well, I guess this has to be some part of my job having to give this many make-up exams.

Today we had got back to school and back to musical rehearsals.  I had to stay after school until five p.m. again today to run rehearsal.  I will really be happy by next Saturday as an extreme amount of my time will get freed up and I will have the ability to concentrate on my Star Wars projects yet again.  Isn’t that sad that I’m wanting to get through my school projects so that I can get back to concentrating on my Star Wars projects?  I want to get to my two Star Wars projects (“Catch a Falling Star”, and “Jedi Babies”) and get the backstories and ideas written down for them.  I need to finish my fan fiction of “Catch a Falling Star” and I need to start developing the process for “Jedi Babies” and start recording some concepts with my kids at home.

Okay, so now it’s onto my overall opinion of the Ebook “Darth Maul:Saboteur” by James Luceno…..

As far as Ebooks go, I guess it’s okay.  But then again, this is the first Ebook I have ever read, so I guess I don’t have too much experience to measure this up against.  In reality I believe this book had too many details and lost me in some of the descriptions of the details.  It was great at getting me to understand what Darth Maul and what Darth Sidious are thinking.  It’s not very often that any book goes into any great description about character’s thoughts, but this book does.  Maybe I’m too much of an action nut, but I really don’t need to know what characters are thinking.  Books intrigue me in one of two ways.  Either they have a great storyline that makes me want to keep flipping the pages OR there is a lot of action in the book that makes me picture the book being produced on a movie screen.  I may be right or I may be wrong, but that is what I look for.  This book didn’t seem to really fulfill any of those needs.  I had a really hard time “drudging” through the pages of this Ebook and really lost the point behind the story until the very end.  As a book about Darth Maul, it really disappointed me.  It didn’t do anything to further the storyline about the relationship between Darth Maul and Darth Sidious or the back story on Darth Maul.  I wanted to see more out of this character and out of this storyline.  This was one of the few James Luceno books that I have not been impressed with.  That’s why “Darth Maul:Saboteur” only got a 4 out of 10.

‘Darth Maul:Saboteur’ – Part 3

Well, another busy day in paradise.  I didn’t expect today to be busy as it is my last day of vacation and I expected things to be quiet and relaxing before I go back to the chaos of school.  But, I was proven wrong.  My wife had to go to work today and then decided to head on over to Vestal and JoAnn Fabrics and pick up some materials she needed to work on some stuff for a dance group she does costumes for.  Well, she also needed to get back to work by seven o’ clock tonight and didn’t get out of work until two p.m.  Anyway, at three o’clock, my wife calls me from a repair station and let’s me know that the struts on our only working car have broken and that she is stuck there waiting until they decide to fix the car.  So, after a two-hundred and fifty dollar bill, the car got fixed and my wife returned home by five p.m.  Of course dinner got rushed and I was a little upset that we had very little time to spend with each other and not to mention the bill we got.  Another bill we just weren’t prepared to pay for.  So much for our thousand-dollar buffer in case something goes wrong with the house or vehicles.  I think we’re going to have to amp that buffer up to two or even three thousand dollars this coming year.

I just finished an online application to Lowe’s today.  I’m hoping they would be willing to hire me for the summer so my family and I can put some money aside for next year or even get our other car on the road.  I can’t believe that Lowe’s applications can only be done online.  You know, I understand if upper-class jobs had online applications, but Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse?  I’m not sure everyone that works at Lowe’s has a hi-speed internet connection in order to fill out an application.  Just a thought.

Anyway, I got some more work done tonight on my Helm’s Deep set and I can’t wait until it’s finished and my kids and I get a chance to play on the set and do our first “battle” on the home built Helm’s Deep set.  It will just be fun!!

Anyway, onto Part 3 of the Ebook “Darth Maul:Saboteur” by James Luceno…..

Saboteur – Part 3:  We move scenes to Caba’Zan and Bruit sitting down in Bruit’s living room.  Caba’Zan plays a tape of Bruit at the cantina, but the words spoken were words said at Bruit’s house.  Bruit thinks the Toom Clan is to blame, but Caba’Zan doesn’t think they’re that smart.  Caba’Zan and Bruit agree to strike the Toom Clan in retaliation.  Darth Maul, who has been spying, is satisfied.  We then switch scenes and drop back in the timeline a little.  We find out that Maul opted not to watch the collision on Eriadu, but to observe the Toom Clan base on Riome.  We then switch back to the modern timeline as Maul is landing on Riome ahead of the mixed squad headed by Bruit.  Bruit dropped out of the sky in a troop carrier which gets destroyed almost immediately.  Bruit’s crew makes a slow, methodical attack on the bunker.  Maul realized they wouldn’t be successful with a frontal assault.  He then entered the foray dodging blaster fire, but drawing the attention of Bruit’s men to a better entrance to the bunker.  Bruit’s men also managed to break into the blast doors on the front of the bunker.  The battle went on for so long that weapons were exhausted and a hand to hand fight ensued.  Maul decided he needed to kill them all because he didn’t want his face out on the holonet somewhere.  Maul killed the others and saved Bruit for last.  Bruit put two and two together and realized Maul was behind everything.  Darth Maul force-choked Bruit to death.  We then switch scenes to Arrant’s office as he receives the news of Bruit’s death.  He believes the Trade Federation payed off the Toom Clan, but has no evidence to back his alligation.  After more facts emerge, Arrant decides to make two calls.  One to InterGalactic to discuss a company merger, the other to the Trade Federation to discuss the shipping rights to the Lommite.  We then switch scenes to Niemoidia where Hath Monchar and Viceroy Nute Gunray have a holomessage from Darth Sidious.  Monchar leaves at Sidious’ request.  Gunray informs Lord Sidious of the merger of the companies into Dorvalla Mining.  Sidious informs them there will be more to come.  We then switch to Sidious and Maul on Courscant.  Sidious tells Maul to familiarize himself with the Black Sun and to continue his training as his lightsaber will be very important on his next mission.

Okay, today was a busy Monday.  We really had a lot to get done around the house.  We got up fairly early today with my parents and hung out with them for a little bit.  My mom, dad, and myself ended up going to Vestal at around ten o’clock this morning.  We ended up getting a new innertube for Ruth’s bike.  She’s been bummed because it’s been such a beautiful day outside and she hasn’t been able to ride her bike outside because of having a hole in her bike tire.  So, it was only five dollars to fix.  If only more things in life cost that little to fix.  My mom went over to A.C. Moore to buy some more wallets and glasses case, counting cross-stitch kits.  She liked the one that Heather completed already and wanted some more and Heather wanted some for herself.  I also managed to pick up some more glue to keep working on my Helm’s Deep set.  We got home and finished working on Ruth’s bike and she’s now a happy camper because she is able to ride around on her bike.

Mom and dad left around noon and we sat down and ate lunch together.  The kids then went out side and played and continued to rotate laundry for Heather.  We did a little more yard-work today as well and worked on planning out our garden.  Heather had to leave and go to work before dinner and won’t get back until after nine p.m.  So, the kids and I finished eating some of the leftovers from Easter dinner and then I had them watch a movie upstairs while I went downstairs and watched the CBS line-up (which was all repeats by the way) while I worked on my Helm’s Deep set.  I hope to take pictures of the current set sometime in the near future and posting them here on the blog site.  Heather came home at nine and surprised me with some Wendy’s food and we ate some food (probably too late at night, but it tasted good!).

Okay, time to talk about Part 2 of the Ebook “Darth Maul:Saboteur” by James Luceno…..

Saboteur – Part 2:  Arrant informs Bruit that he has one day to get the facilities back in working order.  Arrant has also decided to retaliate against InterGalactic, but he doesn’t want them to know it was Lommite Limited directly.  We then switch scenes to Maul who has landed on Dorvalla by himself.  Maul enters the local cantina and orders a pure water.  Maul listens in on the conversations of three of LL’s security personnel as they talk about a counter attack against InterGalactic.  Maul then notices a listening device that appears to be along the ceiling.  Maul convinced himself that the listeners are spies of InterGalactic.  Maul follows the three LL security personnel to Bruit’s house.  While listening in, Maul finds out that LL has hired the Toom Clan to sabotage a shipment to Eriadu the same day an LL shipment is also supposed to arrive.  Bruit lets it slip that he’d like to see both companies go down so that a better, stronger company could come out of the works.  Maul decided now was the time to strike both ends like his double-bladed lightsaber.  Maul takes the time and try and break into Lommite Limited’s headquarters, but too many sensors and obstacles prevent him.  Maul returns back to Bruit’s residence before sunrise.  Maul snuck into the house and got into Bruit’s personal computer and downloaded the info about the delivery to Eriadu.  Darth Maul then went back to the Cantina.  Maul catches the InterGalactic agents’ listening bug and turns it on them.  He then listens in as a Tooms Clan member offers to help the InterGal agents strike back at Eriadu at the same time.  We then switched scenes to the Tooms Clan headquarters.  Caba’Zan and Nort Toom are talking about Lommite Limited’s current offer  Caba’Zan offers twice what LL offers to have the Toom Clan sabotage LL’s delivery.  When the transmission ends, Nort Toom’s tells the rest the rest of the clan they’ll sabotage everyone’s ships.  We then switch to a scene on Eriadu.  Lieutenant Governor Tarkin, Jurnel Arrant, and many of Eriadu’s business elite were waiting for the arrival of LL and InterGal’s Lommite load.  Bruit is with Arrant and his conversation with a  business executive is cut short.  He is informed that LL’s ships are going to collide with InterGal’s.  That’s when everyone realizes they’ve been double crossed by the Toom Clan……

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!  This is a joyous day for all Christians.  It is on this day that Christ died on the cross to absolve us of all of our Sins.  What a guy!!  Anyway, today was a good day around the Crissman house.  Things went generally well and my kids were really excited about the gifts they got.  The three of them woke-up to one Easter basket a piece with a snaking new Bible in them with some other “stuff” including candy and coloring books (of course, my son received a Star Wars one ).  We then went to church where I sang in the choir and played trumpet for one more Sunday.  That was fun, and could get addictive.  All well, next Sunday I will be back to doing the sound work again.

Anyway, Heather and I raced home after church to beat my parents and kids to the house and set out the other Easter baskets and gifts.  So, my kids came home to the Easter bunny having dropped off all of the gifts.  I know, how sneaky are we!  Anyway, my kids were very excited and my kids got lots of cool stuff as always.  Of course, my son got a Star Wars toy (A Chewbacca “Star Wars Force Battlers” figure) and was really excited to get it.   Ruth got some Barbie toys, a velvet coloring poster, and lots of cool craft stuff.  Tara got a “Hello Kitty” coloring kit that uses water to work, and she played with it all day.  All in all, it was a fun day.  Heather and I both got a nap in today as we were both exhausted because of her having to work until 2 a.m.  We also had a chance to watch “Herbie: Fully Loaded” as it was on T.V. on Cinemax.  Overall, a good day and very uneventful.  That’s what we like to hear.

Okay, so time to cover the first segment of the Ebook, “Darth Maul:Saboteur” by James Luceno…..

Saboteur – Part 1:

Characters:  Patch Bruit, Jurnel Arrant, Hath Monchar, Viceroy Nute Gunray, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Nort Toon, Caba’Zan, Lieutenant Governor Tarkin

Planets:  Dorvalla, Eriadu, Riome, Neimoidia, Courscant

We start by following Patch Bruit, chief of field operations for Lommite Limited.  LL is launching shuttles filled with Lommite when two of the shuttles diverge from their intended path and ran right into the castle on Dorvalla.  Bruit then goes to talk to Jurnel Arrant about the situation.  Arrant is upset with Bruit and can’t understand why he can’t do his job.  Bruit suggests that Arrant go to the Senate about these terrorist attacks, but Arrant does not because he believes it will bankrupt both Lommite Ltd. And their rival, InterGalactic.  Their conversation is interrupted with a call from Hath Monchar.  Monchar offered his condolences for the position LL recently experienced.  Monchar informs Arrant that the Trade Federation is willing to ship Lommite for them, for a price.  Arrant turns them down.  It begins to rain over the dusty mess on Dorvalla.  We then switch to Sidious and Maul discussing matters between the two mining companies at Sidious’ layer.  Sidious tells Maul he wants to see both companies collapse and deliver Dorvalla to the Trade Federation.  Sidious says he has a mission for his apprentice.  Sidious looks at, and admires Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber.  Sidious tells Maul to go to Dorvalla and strike both companies as his lightsaber can strike from both ends.  We then go back to Dorvalla and follow Bruit as they search through the debris and discover their shuttles have been sliced into.  Bruit heads to Arrant’s  office where they confirm with each other that InterGalactic carried our the terrorist attack……. (to be continued)
