‘Star Wars:Republic Commando – Hard Contact’ – Chapter 15 (Part 2)

Sunday.  Should be a day of rest, but for me, it was a busy, busy Sunday.  We got up at a decent hour this morning and got ready for church.  Heather and I left early because we were supposed to be singing in the choir this morning for Palm Sunday.  We got to church and there weren’t enough copies for all the members of the choir.  Our director made some comment about how his choir has grown from his “dependables” and I had decided that this was it.  I got up from the choir loft and said to myself, “that’s it!”  I then walked out and sat in the congregation.  What actually happened was I had to end up running sound for the service.  I was very ticked off at the choir director for making such a comment and I had decided that I didn’t need to put up with that kind of crap from other music teachers anymore.  Oh no!!  Does that mean that I’ve become a pre – madonna now?

Got done with the church service and got dressed into my Jedi costume.  The plan was that Heather was going to drop me off to Barnes and Nobles.  I would troop with my unit and when we were done, I would call the house and dad would come and pick me up while mom and grandma set-up their version of Easter while the kids were out of the house.  It didn’t quite work out that way, but I’ll get to that later.  I got into my costume and Heather dropped me off to Barnes and Nobles.  I convinced her to stay around because I wanted to show Ian and Charles my helmet and the progress I’ve made with it.  We waited and waited and waited.  Here I am in my Jedi costume and I’m the only one in the whole store.  A tad bit embarrassing.  I think my wife was slightly embarrassed too.  We then ran into Jim (the new guy) and talked with him for a little bit.  Then we caught up with Charles, Ian, and Karen.  We had a great time walking around the plaza and Barnes and Nobles.  Many people thought it was great and we had many people asking to take pictures with us.

And then there was Wal Mart.  We went into Wal Mart thinking it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.  We weren’t breaking any laws, and there’s nothing that says we can’t walk into Wal Mart with a Star Wars costume on.  The only thing they can insist upon is that we have shoes and shirts on and then we’re not breaking any policies.  No problem!!  According to Wal Mart, we were a problem.  Interestingly enough, the regular Wal Mart employees were happy to see us and were even striking up a conversation with us.  The only person that was rather agitated by our presence was the store manager.  The same store manager that I had been trying to get ahold of for the past two months who has refused to meet with me.  While we were there, I needed to grab some thread because Heather wants to fix my cloak now that her surger is fixed.  Well, as the manager was asking us to leave Wal Mart, I asked if I could buy the thread I had in my hand.  He said, “sure, we would never let you not buy products from our fine establishment” and then he insisted in walking behind me on my way to the cash register and then escorted me through the line and out the door.  What a jerk!!  We’ve all agreed that we will NEVER work with Wal Mart in Vestal for anything Star Wars related in the future.  What jerks and what a way to “build a community” that Wal Mart claims it does anywhere it goes.

We got back to Barnes and Nobles and talked for a little while for our meeting and then did the recording for my “What If…” segment.  Just before I did this, I called my house and told my wife to have my father meet me at Barnes and Nobles.  After we got done talking for a while, everyone in my FanForce group left and Barnes and Nobles (graciously, mind you) asked if I could wait outside since I was the only one left.  I had called my dad over forty-five minutes earlier, so I figured he would be here any minute.  An hour and a half later, I get a phone call from my dad on his cell and he says he can’t find me at Wal Mart anywhere.  In the meantime, it got cold and wet outside.  Needless to say, I’ve discovered that Jedi cloaks don’t do much for keeping you warm.  Lesson learned.

We came home and celebrated Easter early with my parents.  The kids got lots of cool toys and Austin even got some Star Wars Unleashed figures to go with the ones that he already has.  We had some fun with mom and dad tonight and went downstairs and watched “Amazing Race” and “The Apprentice” together.  We went to bed at our usual time as I had school tomorrow and so did the kids.

Okay, let’s talk about Part 2 of Chapter 15 of “Star Wars:Republic Commando – Hard Contact” by Karen Traviss…..

Chapter 15 (Part 2):  As Darman tok apart and worked on the portable ram, he reminded himself that the explosives would be more than enough to open the doors rapidly.  Then Niner let them all know that Jinart got the remote cameras working.  As they all watched, they observed that a platoon of droids was heading back to the labratory.  Then they pictured Ghez Hokan, helmet under his arm.  Then they realized that Guta Nay did his job, and they shot themselves in the foot.  Two squads – one for the villa; one for the labratory.  Atin asked if they had a plan C.  At that moment Etain tapped on Darman’s shoulder and wanted to know what is going on.  Darman explained to her, since they were talking amongst helmets, the dilemna.  Niner gave Fi remote watch, then said he would call in for back-up from “The Majestic”.  Darman reminded him of comm silence till extraction, but Etain urged him to make contact anyway.  Fi told them all to check out the remote at the villa.  They all saw a boy with a fruit basket and familiar gate walk in the side entrance of the villa.  Fi said he hpes that the boy, Jinar in another form, gets the fruit into the cellar.  Etain hoped she could get out…..
