‘Star Wars:The Approaching Storm’ – Chapter 14 (Part 1)

I am totally exhausted after today but I feel that we got much accomplished as a family today.  My in-laws came down today and we all worked on getting the blown-in insulation into my ceiling.  I hope it makes a difference.

My in-laws showed up this morning around 9 a.m. and called us shortly before they arrived.  I took a shower quick before they arrived, and later I realized that was probably a dumb mistake.  As soon as my father-in-law arrived, it was time to get to business.  We unloaded the machine and got the masks out (my wife didn’t get the goggles and only one package of paper masks, which we would all regret later on).  We realized that the hose on the machine was not long enough to leave the hopper outside, so we had to put the hopper in the house.  This was going to be messy as this meant that the insulation would have to be broken up and brought into the house and blown around in the house.  I knew what that meant.  There was going to be a thick cloud of gray dust all over the house which would make cleaning up interesting later.  We tried to put up some tarps to keep the computer and all the equipment in the dining room like my keyboard protected.

Soon after hanging the tarps, we got right to work.  It was tough work all around and it was hard because of the machine and not what was required of us.  The machine had a “cage” keeping you from putting your hands in a dangerous position in the hopper to not keep them from getting cut-off.  The problem was the “cage” also kept the insulation from going into the bottom of the machine where it would get blown out the hose.  Man, this was either going to be a rough day or a long day.  We decided to choose the former over the later.  Heather and I worked hard all day long and pushed, pulled, and worked the insulation like it was bread that needed to be kneaded.  We worked hard on trying to make the flow consistent for my father-in-law who is in the attic with the hose and blowing in the insulation.  It worked at times and other times it didn’t work at all.  While we were working on this, we received the mail and in the mail got a message from our mortgage company that said our check for the mortgage had bounced because of insufficient funds.  Hmmm, that wasn’t supposed to happen, much less, the money’s still in the bank!  Unfortunately, we have no way to take care of this today (figures!), so we’ll have to deal with it on Monday.  We kept working and took a small brake about half-way through (around 1 p.m.).  We finished with the last bag at around 3 p.m. and we all got together and started to do some cleaning.  As we did this, Heather got ready to go to work.  Oi!!  I was exhausted and I knew I had a long night ahead of me.

We decided to take my in-laws out to dinner at Wendy’s and we all ate together before Heather had to go to work.  It was fun and we had some time as a family before Heather had to depart.  My in-laws decided to leave from there and we parted our ways.  I came home and cleaned, cleaned, cleaned, cleaned, cleaned.  Man, what a mess that insulation makes!  There was a thin gray coat of dust on everything in the house.  The shop-vac got used at it’s maximum this evening.  We shop-vacced everything.  The walls, pictures, ceilings, floors, paintings, cabinets, knick-knacks, and everything including the kitchen sink.  By the end of the night the kids and I were both exhausted.  We all went to bed around 11 p.m. to get ready for church tomorrow.

Okay, so let’s talk about Part 1 of Chapter 14 of Alan Dean Foster’s “Star Wars:The Approaching Storm”…..

Chapter 14 (Part 1):  After riding all night, the exhausted party faced a bright sunshiny morning.  The air was so refreshing, Obi-Wan went through a set of stretches on the back of his suubatar.   Luminara spurred her suubatar ahead as she already had questions for her guides.  As Anakin watched his master go through his meditation ritual, he wondered if it was the fate of every Jedi to become isolated and alone.  Luminara was not like this, so he wondered if it was a male Jedi trait.  Anakin vowed that he would not do the same.  Barriss startled him out of his deep thought saying that she was impressed by his performance last night.  Anakin says that a Jedi representation is shown through his ability with a lightsaber and he thinks that respect can stop fights before they even start.  Barris says taht Anakin could rival Yoda on the lightsaber technique and Anakin says she must be joking.  Anakin said his classes were all about technique and that he was already better than Anakin and that was without trying or experience.  Barriss pondered whether Yoda had never been in a fight before and Anakin almost laughed and said he who would he fight, a midget?  Barriss says that a good fighter fights with heart and Anakin says that size and power would wind against heart any day…..
