‘Star Wars:The Approaching Storm’ – Chapter 11 (Part 6)

One word description for today – DEPRESSION!!  I was driving on my way to work with our Ford Escort this morning and the car started to act weird. It was bucking and girating and acting like it was going to stall at any moment.  I prayed that I would make it to work and luckily the car made it there.  I called Heather and she dropped off the other, “crappy” white car and took the Escort to the mechanic.  I figured it was something simple like water in the gas tank or something simple.  This car has been running great since we put in the new transmission.  At around 11 a.m., I got a call from my wife who was in a panic and crying and she tried to get to tell me that the Escort was shot.  Evidently the fourth cylinder is not moving and the mechanic is guessing without pulling the engine apart, that the fourth cylinder has pulled through the o-seal and the car will cost more to fix than it will be to buy a new car.  Shit!!  We did NOT plan on this!  And, it could not happen at a worse time of year.  Things have been tight trying to run marching band without having been paid for it yet and we just don’t have any extra cash on top of it.  Everything in my life came to a screeching halt.  Heather and I were text messaging each other all day.  I tried calling my pastor and my parents and can’t seem to get ahold of anyone!  I really needed to talk to someone to try and brainstorm some solutions.  After trying to concentrate at school, I decided to brainstorm and decided that it was time that we seriously consider our options and simply have to go out and buy a new/used car.  This is going to be tough and I expect many fights with my wife ahead.  We’re going to have to zip up our skirts and cut our monthly budget down and keep any spending in the house to an absolute minimum.

In the meantime, I had to call my marching band director and let him know that I won’t be able to make practices indefinetly till I can get a car that will make it to Vestal.  I knew he wouldn’t be happy and I was rather upset with it myself.  On top of all of this, I posted on the Force.net boards that I would not be going to the Syracuse Heroes Expo as I now could officially not afford to go.  This was a bummer because I had already paid my ticket, but we were going to need every penny we have for a down-payment on a car.  Shortly after I posted, Ian, a member of the group, PMed me and I called him and he told me I was going.  He agreed to pick me up on Sunday morning and said he would bring me back here on Sunday night as well.  He said that I’ve already paid for a ticket so there was no reason I shouldn’t go and that I don’t need that much money and I could take a bag lunch to save expenses.  So, that trip was saved by members of my own FanForce group.  Thanks guys!!!  Anyway, Heather and I sat down tonight to start to work on the budget when I got a call from a friend who said they would be willing to help and that they would lend Heather and I $600 to help with a down-payment.  After some consideration, Heather and I agreed and they brought the payment by later this evening in cash.  We were totally blown away at the friends donation and I was honestly in tears partially over joy (that a friend was willing to help us in such a time of need) and out of embarrassment that my wife and I are in this situation and are so dependent on friends’ help to make it through.  What a day!  I’m exhausted just thinking about it and I think it’s time to just go to bed!

Before I do, let’s talk about Part 6 of Chapter 11 of “Star Wars:The Approaching Storm” by Alan Dean Foster…..

Chapter 11 (Part 6):  The Gwurrans were happy to learn but semi-rude as guests.  they played with and crawled all over everything in the camp.  Bulgan and Kyakhta watched the scene in utter disdain.  Luminara asked them why and Kyakhta says they have never seen this group before and they don’t trust them.  Luminara said they were just like the Alwari in many regards, right down to their language.  Bulgan stopped and corrected her and referred to the Gwurrans as savages.  Luminara points out that the Alwari look upon the Gwurrans much like the city-folk look upon the Alwari.  Kyakhta told Luminara that she is a good teacher and he begins to wonder if the Gwurrans were possibly more curious than savages.  Luminara  asked them to give the Gwurrans a chance.  She turned and watched as Barris tried to explain to the Gwurrans htat the Jedi are not nomads.  She explained that some Jedi make it to the Jedi Council and live on Coruscant.  They all asked what Coruscant was and Barriss did her best to explain the concepts of planets to them…..
