‘Cloak of Deception’ – Chapter 24

Posted in IB - Star Wars: Cloak of Deception (8) with tags on March 31, 2006 by jedicouncil

Well, today went a little easier, but has made my Monday more difficult.  I wasn’t able to have my tech rehearsal today because too many of my student couldn’t make it.  It kind of worked out for my family though because we have a lot of work to do for the weekend.

I AM ALIVE!!! I AM ALIVE!!!!  Well, at least according to the banking system I am!  I went to our bank today and actually signed papers to put my name on our checking account.  It’s about frickin’ time!!  I have been dealing with this issue since last year and it is finally resolved!  We will get my name on the account, we got things set up for direct deposit of my money AND we will finally get debit cards.  See, I guess it pays to rip someone a new one.  NOW I exist according to the “money world”.

My in-laws are coming this weekend and Heather and I need to get the house ready and organized.  My father-in-law (the amazing carpenter) is going to finnish putting in a closet in between Tara and Ruth’s rooms.  It will be nice for the project to be done but will also be hard because now it means that we have two more rooms that will have to be painted.  Man, it’s tough being a homeowner period.  I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I thought I may get a month’s break here or there.  Guess I was wrong.

Some positives though.  Tonight, I’m releasing “The Jedi Council Speaks” #4.  I’m really excited about this release.  I have two interviews that I did over the phone on this episode.  One with Andrew Bettis of “Star Wars:  In The Beginning”, and another with Dustin Roberts who is running for Star Wars Fan Club President.  It was exciting to do interviews and I can see how it can get addicting for podcasters/radio show hosts.  I definetly want to do more of those.  So, head on over to http://www.treborgahkor/podomatic.com tonight and check it out.  If you can’t get the show (we’ve been having serious bandwidth issues over there), then head to http://www.ourmedia.org/user/64604.  That site will always be active.  I’m pretty proud of this show and I hope all of you like it.

Okay, onto talking about Chapter 24 of “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno……

Chapter 24 – At the beginning of this chapter, we follow Boiny, Rella, Cohl, and Lope landed on a Corellian freighter.  The inspection team from Eriadu get knocked out when they land and Cohl’s team use the uniforms of the members.  They leave the chief of the team alive and transfer equipment to the customs building where Cohl has team members to secure the equipment.  They sneak onto the planet by putting members of the crew in canisters in hoversleds.  Havac was waiting in the customs building and Cohl and Havac leave to talk on their own.

Play rehearsal went very well today.  We were able to start putting together the sound system.  We at least got all of the equipment out into the auditorium, which in and of itself can be quite a chore.  We were also able to run the cable snake and start getting a general idea of how we will set up the sound.  What makes this hard right now is the fact that the set is not up yet.  Normally, the set for the musical is already up and I’m already doing light alterations.  That is not the case yet and I’m concerned we are going to be cutting it close to get the lighting set up and ready to go.  I’m also hoping that I can get ahold of someone that can get me a spotlight (rented or otherwise).  We’ve never had one at our school and we should have one.

It was a tough night.  I got done with play rehearsal and then went to SMASH and didn’t get home until after 9 p.m.  It just makes for an extremely long day.  I feel as though I barely had time to even pee much less teach and do my job to the best of my ability.  I’m so exhausted that I haven’t even begun to think about the weekend yet, even though it starts tomorrow.
I am supposed to have Ruth and Tara do some recording for Jeff Roney this weekend, but I’m not sure if I’m going to get it done by then.  I may have to postpone that idea until next weekend when we will be here by ourselves.  That, I believe may be our only hope for getting our audition for Roney’s “Voices” audio drama done for him.  Jeff, if you’re reading this, I’m extremely sorry but the next month is completely chaotic for us.

Okay, onto my review of Chapter 23 of “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno…..

Chapter 23 – We start this chapter with the Jedi Knights from Asmeru along with Cindar using “The Hawk Bat” to land on Karfeddion.  Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon talk about Cindar while they are landing on Karfeddion and Qui-Gon says that he doesn’t trust Cindar, either, but they need to start somewhere.  When they land, Qui-Gon acts as a member of the Nebula Front and finds out that Cohl was in a bar on this planet, hired members for a team.  Then Cindar reveals himself and informs the Jedi that they weren’t supposed to find out that info.  A small fight ensues and Cindar is shot with a ricochet from a blaster.  Then Qui-Gon and the Jedi decide to race Cohl to Eriadu on “The Hawk Bat”.  Then we switch scenes to  the Jedi Council again, where Yoda and the others find out Qui-Gon is leaving Karfeddion and heading for Eriadu.

Well, today was a rather ho-hum day.  Musical rehearsal went fine and I had a decent day myself.  I did not get back to my house until 5 p.m. like I will be doing for the next month for musical rehearsals.  However, when I got home, I had a nice surprise.  I flipped through the mail and in that, I received mail from “Who’s Who”.   For those of you that don’t know who “Who’s Who” is, they are an organization that recognize the best of the best teachers and students in a book titled “Who’s Who”.  I have had the honor of being nominated by one of my students for this past year.  By the way, if that student is reading this blog, “Thank you”.  I don’t think many people realize what it means to teachers to be nominated for such awards.  We don’t get a lot of recognition and it felt great for me to know that I got to some student somewhere.

In the same pile of mail, I found a letter from “Arrow Financial”.  And if you read my blog entry titled “‘Cloak of Deception – Chapter 14′” (published on 3/21/06) you know what company I’m talking about.  They actually sent a letter informing my wife and I that I would be off the “Check Systems Report” by the end of the week.  Holy crap!!! I can actually exist and open up a checking account again!  It’s about frickin time!!  Especially considering THEY were the ones who made the mistake!

Okay, on to my review of Chapter 22 of “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno…..

Chapter 22 – We start off this chapter with Chancellor Valorum landing on Eriadu for the summit.  Upon landing, Valorum meets Wilhuff Tarkin, a srtict governor of Eriadu.  Valorum is also met by many Senate Guards, Sei Taria, Adi Gallia, and three other Jedi Knights.  Tarkin informs Valorum that there were riots over his need to come to Eriadu, so they rerouted his landing last minute.  Tarkin introduces Valorum to Lady Vandron of Asmeru and she informs Valorum the hostage situation on her planet has been resolved.  We then switch scenes to the Senate Building on Coruscant where Bail Antilles and Orn Free Taa where Taa tells Antilles there is a dilemma with Valorum’s proposition of taxation on the trade routes.  Taa then informs him that much of the money that will be reinvested in the Outer Rim will funnel through investors on Eriadu, of which Valorum is a member.  Antilles informs Taa he will investigate any improprieties.

Well, not as bad today as yesterday.  I am not so tired, but that is because I had to cancel my musical rehearsal because a majority of my students weren’t able to make it because of a concert they all had to perform at.  So, a plus for me.  I was able to come home and take some time and enjoy my day.

My youngest daughter is in her second day of her week-long in room punishment.  I’m not sure if it’s sinking in yet as to whether or not she has realized why she is stuck in her room for the week.  She, of course, is being punished for touching her brother/sister’s things last weekend and we have been having issues with her touching things she’s not supposed to.  So, when we come home every night, she goes to her room and spends the rest of the night in her room.  She is allowed to play in there, but she can’t listen to the radio (I took that away), can’t watch T.V. (doesn’t have one in the room), and has to eat dinner there.  I think she is actually starting get bored tonight.  She was back there just singing to herself.  Let’s see how she does the rest of the week.  The big question by Saturday is, “did she get the point”?

Okay, enough about that.  It’s time to talk about Chapter 21 of “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno…..

Chapter 21 – We start this chapter back on the battle on Eriadu.  The slaves on the planet have joined the fight with the Jedi.  When out of nowhere, Qui-Gon’s Bith informant brings in other terrorists to help the Jedi.  The Nebula Front becomes split among those who attempted to kill Valorum and those who did not.  Just as the terrorists were able to secure one of the Cloak Shape Starfighters and get it into the air, a Judicial Lancet flies in from overhead.  Shortly after, the battle is won and the militants surrender.  Qui-Gon’s Bith informant informs him that it’s not over.  He tells him that Captain Cohl has a plan that he has left to execute.  Cindar shows up and tells Qui-Gon that it has something to do with Havac and the planet of Karfeddion.  Qui-Gon leaves for Karfeddion with Cindar.  We then change scenes to Boiny and Captain Cohl interviewing a hit-man named Lope.  Cohl and Boiny agree to hire Lope and then go back to thier new ship (which is NOT “The Hawk Bat”) and find Rella waiting for them there.  Cohl informs Rella of the plan to execute Valorum.  Rella tries to talk him out of it, and is unsuccessful, but decides to join the team.

Shear exhaustion!!  That’s all that I feel right now.  It’s officially spring musical time and it’s crunch time for me.  So, I may be spotty over the next month with my blog.  I may go days, or even weeks, and then post a whole mess of blogs all at once.

Well, today was the first day for the light crew and I to get together for the musical.  We had an absolute blast!  Not only is the crew picking up on their positions pretty quick (which will change later as we do things quicker and faster) and we have enough members for their to be “captains” for both the sound and lighting crew.  I don’t want to say “captain”, but a student that reports to me on how the crew is doing and can help coordintate between me and the crew.  As we put on our radios today, we had some girl all of a sudden show up on our channel and had an “American Pie 2” (if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll know what I mean) moment.  She kept cutting in on our radio line and making “advances” on me and the crew and we started goofing around back.  So, after about ten minutes of just goofing around, we decided to get back to work.  Sounds easy, right?  Well, not for her!  She decided that she would continue to annoy us.  At first it was funny, then it got out of control.  All well, I guess that’s what I get for using radios on an “open” frequency.

I came home and Heather went to take Austin to Boy Scouts and found out that it was cancelled for tonight.  So, she went to “Dance Connection” (the company she sews for), did some work and we were able to chill for a while tonight.

Okay, onto Chapter 20 of “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno……

Chapter 20 – We start this chapter in Valorum’s office in the Republic Executive Building on Coruscant.  Valorum, Bail Antilles, Horox Ryyder, and Palpatine are watching a hologram of “The Ecliptic” and “The Prominense” crashing on Asmeru.  They all assume that the Jedi and judicials are captured by the Nebula Front.  Valorum suggests they delay the summit on Eriadu but Palpatine talks him out of it.  We then switch to the scene going on, on the planet of Asmeru.  The Jedi are fighting gun boats trying to get to the fighters to get off of the planet.  We then switch scenes to the High Council Chamber of the Jedi Temple.  Yoda and Mace Windu are discussing the fate of the Jedi and Judicials on Asmeru.  They talk of Valorum’s plan to dispatch judicials from Eriadu, sent to protect him at the summit on Asmeru.  Yoda suggests they do the same with ten of the twenty Jedi that have been sent to Eriadu as well.

‘Cloak of Deception’ – Chapter 19

I am SO tired today!! I stayed up late last night and into this morning to make sure that I get our Firefox commercial edited and in.  It’s done and over with.  I didn’t get to bed until 1:30 a.m. this morning.  Of course it didn’t help that Heather worked until 2 a.m. and I can’t get to sleep until she joins me in bed, but I seem to talk about this all the time!

Well, today I recorded the “Cantina News” segment of TJCS #4 and it looks like I will be able to keep the show in under two hours like I’ve always wanted to do.  I’m really excited to get this episode out as my first phone interview is in this episode and I think it turned out really well.  I also got a chance to play “Star Wars Legos” for the PS2 with my son for a little while today which was nice.

I didn’t get any grading done like I intended for the weekend, but I’ll have a chance to catch up on grading over the next week or two.  The next month is going to be insane!  We are starting “musical month”, and this year we’re doing “Aladdin, Jr.” and it seems to be going well.  I have quite the crew for the show and I should be able to take the technical side to the next level.  But, starting Monday I will be at school until 5 p.m. every night, which makes it really hard on Heather and I as we are dealing with one car over the next month.  All, well, this is all a test from God over patience for me.  I hope I’m patient enough to deal with it.

Anway, onto the real reason you’re all here, time to talk about Chapter 19 in “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno…..

Chapter 19 – In this chapter, we start with “The Prominence” and “The Ecliptic” are crashing on planet Asmeru.  “The Ecliptic” is destroyed in the foray.  The Jedi are taken capture by members of the Nebula Front.  their hope is to cancel the summit on Eriadu for exchange of the Jedi’s lives.  The Jedi, while captured, come up with a plan to attempt to escape the planet using some tunnels under the temple  and city where they are being held.  As they approach the ships that they plan on escaping on, they are caught by a Bith that offers the truth.  We end the chapter with seven lightsaber blades being ignited.

‘Cloak of Deception’ – The Outlying Systems (Chapters 18 – 33); Chapter 18

Today was a LONG day here at the Crissman household.  It was official filming day.  I turned our “game room” into a filming studio to try and put together a commercial for the Firefox commercial.  We worked with Visual Communicator and with our cheap $100 Digital Blue camera.  Some things went well, others did not.

What went well:  We found out that green velvet works as green screen material as well as the actual green screen.  We found some GREAT back drops free off the web to use for the commercial and we were able to bring the initial ideas together quickly.  The green screen seemed to work out well and it seems as though any of the wrinkles in the green screen had little to no effect on the actual video.  I was excited to see the video process seemed to work out releativley well.  I also used a box painted white and it seemed to accept the green screen idea as well.  Our concepts worked out relatively well and I must say Ruth’s concepts were pretty cool.

What went bad:  Well, green screen is finicky stuff!!!  I had the green screen set up and when I went to put in the toy animals the kids wanted to use, they seemed almost invisible against the green screen.  I worked on it, but never got it to a perfect level.  I’m not sure why , but it just never seemed to work out.  It’s something that I know I will have to work on for our next video someday.  One thing I have learned is that lighting is everything.  If you don’t have good light, you dont’ have a good show.  The other problems were minor, like not quite getting the audio to exactly line up with the video.

All in all, however, it wasn’t a bad commercial.  I don’t want to put it on my OurMedia page yet because I don’t want to put it out on the net until the winner is picked on April 15th.  I’ll let you all know if we win.  It would be nice if we did, but more importantly, my kids and I had a BLAST putting this video together.  A moment I will cherish with them forever.

Speaking of my kids, Heather and I are really frustrated with our youngest daughter, Tara.  We had a situation last weekend where she had taken things of Heathers and mine that she wasn’t supposed to.  She also decided to write on some imporant papers with a permanent marker.  We sat down and talked with her about her behavior and then punished her (no Daisy Scouts for the week and a day in her room).  Now, today, while I was setting up the green screen downstairs and getting things together for the video, Tara decided to break the rules AGAIN.  This time it was triple whammy!!  It was only twenty minutes between moments that I saw her.  In that time, she managed to write on some important papers with a permanent marker, got into Austin’s Boy Scout fishing kit and unwind the reel and make a mess of the fishing line, and went into Ruth’s room and opened up her jewelry box and made a mess of all of her jewelry and had all the chains tangled together.  It took me an hour (and a lot of patience) to undo that!  Anyway, it was apparent to Heather and I that she didn’t learn anything.  So, she has a new punishment now.  She is to spend the next week in her room.  Everyday she comes home from school she will go to her room.  No T.V., and she eats dinner in her room.  We’re hoping this will help her to learn to appreciate the other things she has in life.  It may be a very lonely life for a week, but every night we are going to talk with her about why it’s inappropriate to touch other people’s things.

Okay, so let’s talk about the section titled “The Outlying Systems” and Chapter 18 of “Cloak of Deception” by James Luceno…
